About CJ Puler and The Hot Philosophy

Who I Am
My name is CJ Puler — a Houston-based writer, business owner, and lifelong student of history, culture, and the human condition. I write under a pen name that’s half-serious, half-playful, but always pointed: Puler comes from the old English verb “to pule,” meaning to cry out. Much of my work is exactly that — a cry against illusion, complacency, atrocity, and easy answers.

What This Project Is
The Hot Philosophy is both a book and a broader project: an attempt to tell the truth about our species, stripped of pieties. It blends philosophy, anthropology, and memoir into a single argument: that human beings are primates, coded with lust and violence, yet capable of extraordinary culture, love, and transcendence.

This site is an extension of that work. Here I post essays, commentary, and dispatches on politics, philosophy, history, and culture. Some are immediate — blog-style responses to today’s headlines. Others are drawn from deeper research for the forthcoming book, The Ass of the Apes: Love at the End of Time—On the Hot Philosophy.

Why It Matters
The old stories — about God-given rights, inevitable progress, or pure rationality — are breaking down. Our world is entering an age of cultural fracture, political danger, and moral confusion. We need honesty about what we are, and clarity about what is at stake.

That’s what this site is for:

  • To push back against comforting myths.

  • To expose the fragile skeins of culture that hold our “Inner Ape” in check.

  • To spark conversation about how we survive, and even love, at the end of time.
